The Leadership Crucible™ develops the leadership skills of women in their fourth year of university who are interested in politics and public service. It is an intensive year-long program that includes regular and personalized contact with participants. Cohorts meet formally once a month for rigorous workshops (on Saturdays). In addition, each participant is paired with a South Sudanese mentor, which is extremely important for young women aspiring to be leaders. Participant who successfully complete the program are invited to participate in ongoing programming the following year. The design of the program is based on research, prior experience, and benchmarking. It is: (1) theoretically‐and experientially‐based, (2) customized to South Sudan, and (3) comprehensive.
The goals of the program are:
- To increase the desire of participants to lead
- To help participants see themselves as leaders
- To help participants develop the skills they need to be effective leaders
- To promote in participants the qualities of effective leaders
- To help participants develop professional networks
